In the UK, asylum seekers are not allowed to work and are given just £5.39 per day to live on. Refugee Action's 'Lift the Ban’ campaign wants those waiting months and years for their asylum claims to be processed, to be able to work and provide for themselves and their families.

Set Her Free

The UK Asylum system is characterised by long delays, limited information and unfair or poor decision-making, as revealed by Refugee Action's ‘Waiting in the Dark’ report. The report offers a vision for what a fair, compassionate system should look like.
Every year, around 1500 women who come to the UK seeking asylum are locked up in detention, so Women for Refugee Women are campaigning to change that. Some have suffered abuse, torture or rape. Pregnant women can be locked up in detention.

End indefinite detention

The UK is the only country in Europe that detains migrants and asylum seekers without a time limit. Detention Action’s End Indefinite Detention campaign is campaigning for exactly what it says on the tin - an end to this immensely damaging and inhumane system with a introduction of a time limit.

Families Together Coalition

A campaign working to reunite refugees with their family members living in the UK, changing the law to expand the definition of who constitutes as family, so that mothers, fathers, children and grandchildren, spouses, civil and unmarried partners, siblings, nieces and nephews can be brought together and find sanctuary in the UK. Support the bill by writing to your MP and tell them how the legal right for family reunion for refugees matters to you. Amnesty have some useful letter templates to use for this action here.
